In this post, we’ll unpack all you need to know about the Law Of Attraction, defining exactly what it is, how it works, how to leverage it to achieve our goals and the life we desire and more.
What Is The Law Of Attraction?
The Law Of Attraction (LOA) states that whatever we think about on a consistent basis we will experience in our lives. More simply, we attract what we focus on.
The Science Behind How The Law Of Attraction Works
We can explain the science behind how The Law Of Attraction works in two ways; in terms of energy and in terms of your nervous system. Below we’ll explore both.
- The Law Of Attraction & Energy
To understand how the Law Of Attraction works in terms of energy, we must first understand two other laws.
Firstly, The Law Of Perpetual Transmutation Of Energy. This law states that everything in the universe is made of energy and energy can neither be created nor destroyed but can only change from one form to another.
Secondly, The Law Of Vibration which states that all energy vibrates at different frequencies. Everything moves and nothing rests and thus we live in an ocean of motion.
Now then, in the human body, vibration refers to how we feel. When you say “I feel good” what you’re are actually saying is that you are in a high vibration. Similarly, when you say “I feel bad” what you’re are actually saying is that you are in a low vibration. What determines how we feel? Our thoughts ― in other words, what we focus on.
So how does all this relate to The Law Of Attraction?
Well, we know that everything is energy (The Law Of Perpetual Transmutation Of Energy). We also know that all energy vibrates at different frequencies (Law Of Vibration). We also understand that we attract what we focus on (Law Of Attraction). Thus it makes sense that whatever we focus on will determine our level of vibration and so we’ll attract everything that is in harmony with that vibration.
If you’ve ever heard the saying “Misery loves company,” now you know why.
“Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want, and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way.” ― Albert Einstein
- The Law Of Attraction & Your Nervous System
Every thought, feeling or action that we engage creates a neural pathway in our brain. The more we engage in a particular thought, feeling or action, the more we strengthen the associated neural pathway. The stronger the neural pathway, the quicker signals can be processed, until eventually signals are processed almost instantly. This is when the behaviour becomes part of our subconscious and so we do it automatically without the need for conscious thought. That’s what we call a habit.
Now, the brain doesn’t know the difference between imagination and reality. So when you focus on a desired outcome, you start to install the necessary neural pathways in your brain associated with your desired outcome in the present moment. Your brain then starts to look like the future you are trying to create has already happened. Those neural pathways then become subconscious programs that align you with the behaviour necessary to achieve your desired outcome in reality.
There are also two other elements to this.
We are constantly exposed to millions of bits of information. To prevent us from being overwhelmed, there is a part of the brain called the Reticular Activating System (RAS). This mechanism filters information so only the relevant bits make it through. In other words, the RAS takes what you focus on and creates a filter for it.
We also have what are called mirror neurons, cells in the brain that are activated when we observe another person having an experience. Our brains then “mirror” that person so that we feel like we are also having the same experience.
How To Leverage The Law Of Attraction
The key to leveraging the Law Of Attraction is to align our thoughts, feelings and actions with our goals and the life we desire.
Factors that can assist in this process include surrounding yourself with people who have already achieved your goals and the life you desire, mental visualisation, affirmations, incantations, vision boards, goal cards and prayer.
The Law Of Attraction states that we attract what we focus on. If we focus on the negative things in our lives, we’ll attract more negative things. However, if we shift our focus onto the positive things, we’ll attract more of the positive things.
By understanding how the Law Of Attraction works, we can use this force to create the realities we desire by consciously and deliberately choosing what we give our attention to.
